CAT Exam
10 of 20 IIMs are without directors While the government aspires to turn its premier educational institutes into world class institutions, at least half of the 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), including the first-generation IIM (Bangalore), are functioning without directors. What’s shocking is that in case of all the 10 IIMs, the Union HRD ministry has been sitting on the names shortlisted by the searchcum-selection committees for over six months now. A highly placed official of the department of personnel & training said, “Of the 10 IIMs, then HRD minister Smriti Irani had forwarded names of directors of four IIMs -Ranchi, Raipur, Bangalore and Rohtak -to DoPT. But then reshuffle took place and DoPT returned the files to the HRD ministry for consideration of the new minister. It has still not come to us.” In case of six other IIMs -Amritsar, Sirmaur, Bodh Gaya, Sambalpur, Nagpur, Vishakhapatnam -searchcum-selection committees have given a shortlist of names to the ministry but it has been under process for long, the DoPT official said. HRD ministry officials refused to comment. Except Bangalore, nine IIMs without directors are new and most of them operate out of temporary campus. In the case of IIM (Bangalore), Sushil Vachani resigned in April this year, three months before his tenure was to end. His decision came after then HRD minister Irani pulled him up for his opposition to the IIM Bill. Sources point out that appointments in key institutions that include many IITs are also stuck with the HRD ministry . Source timesofindia. IIMs take CAT scores for admission into their colleges.
