CMAT Sept vs CMAT Feb vs CAT Comparison for 2012 – 2013

As of now its not clear if JBIMS and other mumbai based colleges will accept CMAT scores of not. But most probably they will.
For comparision of CMAT scores they are going to compare the percentiles. Even if they have not shown the percentiles in the CMAT scorecard but they have it in the background.

Therefore CMAT 2012 sept percentiles = CMAT 2013 feb percentiles = CAT 2012 percentiles
As done last year.

CMAT vs CET vs CAT Comparison for 2011 – 2012 feb

NOTE: This year DTE has compared CMAT percentiles…..

Till last year task for DTE was quite simple, they used to compare apples for apples and consider same percentile for any exam like CAT 99.91 = CET 99.91 = MAT 99.91.

For CAT the conversion is simple  CAT 99.91 = CET 99.91.

But this year there is no percentile given for CMAT so DTE will have to come out with innovative plan to compare the scores. Hence, there are two possibilities:
1. DTE compare ranks ie CMAT Rank 2 = CET Rank 2
2. DTE first convert CMAT scores into percentiles and than compare the percentiles

1. DTE compare ranks ie CMAT Rank 2 = CET Rank 2
This sounds more plausible solution as there are ranks in CMAT (published) and ranks in CET (not yet published). So comparing like for like ranks is a easy solution and not prone to error.

2. DTE first convert CMAT scores into percentiles and than compare the percentiles
This is more contentious solution, If DTE plans to stick to their guns of comparing percentiles, they have to first convert CMAT ranks into percentiles (prone to error) and then compare the percentiles. So comparing like for like percentiles is a difficult solution.

We have published cutoffs considering both the scenario.

What Next post CMAT results !!

CMAT Results
CMAT feb 2012 was more of the experiment by the AICTE to test the waters. Most of the colleges had already completed their applications. However there are still some options for students with admissions for few colleges’ still remains open.
CMAT results came out rather differently with complete list being uploaded rather than individual score cards. CMAT results were not surprising but some students got the beating for marking wrong answers.

What next
CMAT results are just the tip of the iceberg in this year MBA’s preparation. There are two different paths from now onwards. Path one is the standard procedure for GDPI thorough GIM, BIMTech, KJSomaiya, Welinkgar, SIESCOMS and others which follow similar pattern as other B-school admission process. While the second option is for students how had applied for Maharashtra CET and are rather confused about what next! The only good hope remaining from CMAT this year is Maharashtra CET and its associated colleges. In this article I will touch upon both the admission processes.

Submit Scores
Application to colleges with standard procedure is straight forward; The colleges will decide on a cutoffs for CMAT and will announce the calls just like other B-schools. You have to apply if not yet applied to individual colleges and they will get the calls if they clear the cutoffs set by the college.
Applicants interested and applied for Mh CET affiliated colleges will have to wait for CET results in April and then DTE (CET organizing body) will ask you to submit your scores. You can enter your both CMAT and CET scores. DTE will pick up the best of the scores from the written test. Your CMAT scores will be converted to CET equivalent scores (Every year its 1:1 ratio) and will be allocated a score out of 200.

GDPI
Standard procedure colleges will have similar GDPI process as like other Bschools. Every college has their own GDPI process. Some colleges are taking case study instead of GD and some colleges have a small written test also included. Most elaborate process if of Welingkar which includes a creative and psychometric test as well.

For Mh CET Centralized colleges you have to go through GD and PI organized by the DTE in May. DTE conducts GDPI over a span of 20 days which includes 17 marks of Group Discussion and 17 marks of Personal Interview.

Merit List
Standard Procedure Colleges have quite a simple process as they are managing admission of one college. They will publish the merit list and students will be asked to pay the fees and reserve their seat just like other B schools students have applied through so far.
Mh CET Centralized colleges DTE will publish a merit list of 240 marks which will contains marks from written tests, academic performance and GDPI scores.

Area Marks Percent
Written Test 200 83.33%
Group Discussion 17 7.08%
Personal Interview 17 7.08%
Work Ex 2 0.83%
Xth 2 0.83%
XIIth 2 0.83%
Total 240 100.00%

Cap Rounds / Waitlists
Not everyone who is selected by the college takes admission into the college, so to fill in the remaining seats waitlist is published by the colleges. Similarly DTE conducts CAP rounds to fill in the remaining and unallocated seats. DTE conducts a few cap rounds called CAP I, CAP II etc to help students take the unallocated seats.

Final Results and admissions
Most of the colleges will have their final admissions and batches starting by June time except for CET affiliated colleges. Where the final DTE merit list will come out and batches will commence by mid of July.

Maharashtra Students can apply through OMS/All India seats via CMAT scores.

• Candidates will be provided with scores for each section. A national merit ranking will be
prepared based on the scores. In case scores are same for more than one candidate, the
ranking will be based on sectional scores considered in the order of:
– Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation
– Logical Reasoning
– Language Comprehension
– General Awareness
• In case more than one candidate secures same ranking as per the above criteria, the same
Rank will be assigned to all of them but will be displayed by sorting their names
alphabetically.
• The Rank of the subsequent candidate will then be shifted by the number of additional
students having the same Rank. For example if three students are at 25th Rank then
subsequent student will be ranked as 28th.
• All India merit list will be prepared and displayed in the public domain indicating Roll
Number, Rank and the Scores.
• The candidates will be able to see and download their score cards indicating section wise
