Surgical Strike on DI – 6 day plan to improve DI

At cetking  we have combined Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency and Data Comparison into one section DIDSDC.

Data interpretation 20 marks
Data Sufficiency 10 marks
Data Comparison 5 marks

DI in cet will be easy but calculations intensive so take care when practicing these questions. DS wil be 10 questions with 5 based on Quant and 5 based on Logic which are easy but tricky to solve. Data Comparison questions are easiest of all so should not be ignored in the exam.

Combined these topics are of high value but often ignored and less practiced by students. So this week we are doing good surgical strike on DI at cetking centres and online.

Following 6 days plan is ideal way to start DI preparation. There are two types of students when it comes to DI: beginners and experienced.

Plan for Beginners:
Day 1.
Start with Cetking Orange books solved examples there are around 100 questions don’t solve them just read them and try to absorb the data and check how they are solved in the book and see online videos master 3 basic videos. Improve your calculation skills so that we can solve questions faster.

Day 2.
After solved examples there are 150 questions all of different types which should be done. We have taken questions from various exams and added them into the list. Don’t worry about the timing per set main agenda should be to focus on undertanding and solving them right.

Day 3 and 4
Pick up Cetking blue book and complete all DI questions on bar line pie charts and tables do 10 sets per type of question to get expertise in DI. This time focus on the timing with target to solve one set in 5 minutes ie 1 min per question.

Day 5
Focus on Data Sufficiency; it contains questions from logic and quant and can come from any topic from geometry to arithmetic. Also see videos in master 3 on data sufficiency.

Day 6
Data Comparison is easy and can be done in 30 seconds per question. So 2 hours are more than enough to complete.

Plan for Experienced:
Students who have taken cat or have fair knowledge about types of DI and able to solve basic questions

Day 1.

Day 2 and 3
Pick up Cetking blue book and complete all DI questions on bar line pie charts and tables do 10 sets per type of question to get expertise in DI. This time focus on the timing with target to solve one set in 3.5 minutes ie 45 e3fmin per question.

Day 4
Focus on Data Sufficiency; it contains questions from logic and quant and can come from any topic from geometry to arithmetic. Also see videos in master 3 on data sufficiency.

Step 4: solutions and your score:
Correct: ____ (questions × +3 )
Wrong: ____ (questions × -1 )
Final score: _____

Solutions
1 181 is minimum needed to get all calls
2 25 needed in a section to get 2 calls exactly
3 maximum score for no calls is 184
4 Cetking student minimum needs 45 to get all calls in section D.

5 (1) preeti scored a grade
6 (4) same score as manab
7 (2) gauri scored more than hari
8 (3) Utkarsh scores D grade

9 we can find M for 2 people saurav and dravid
10 kaif rahul or dravid anyone can have lowest R index
11 lower score than yuvraj would be kaif and dravid ie 2.
12 best M is that of Saurav

13 univ 5 have to be India or Netherlands but not USA
14 univ 1 can belong to Netherlands

Details of CAT 2016 expected paper
DI LR section consisted of 4 sets on DI and LR each. Each set had 4 questions. Most of the sets were time
consuming and challenging. A few DI sets had logical angle to them. In general, all the sets were data intensive
with several conditions. In general, DI-LR section was at similar level of difficulty as DI-LR section of previous
years CAT papers. Attempting CAT 2004 to 2008 papers LR DI Section could be best way to prepare and know
the level of difficulty.
Calculator was useful for solving only a few questions in the set. There were 8 TITA questions in all in this
section. One DI as well as one LR section consisted of all TITA questions. Following is the rough break-up of the

DI-LR sets expected in CAT this year
DI 1- Table (TITA) 4 Difficult
DI 2- Table 4 Medium
DI 3- Area Graph 4 Difficult
DI 4- Table 4 medium

Overall DI/LR Section
A good student would have been able to attempt 16-18 questions overall to get 99%ile plus
In LR Section
A good student would have been able to attempt 8 questions overall to get 99%ile plus
