DTE to have four CAP rounds

Admission to a management college will take a bit longer this year, but the new process will allow students to exercise several more choices. The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), the state body which conducts admission to government and private colleges, will hold four rounds of admission this year. Last year, the DTE had held three rounds and had a different admission process. “This time, we will let students present an unlimited options of colleges online. This will allow them to track the seats in the college of their choice till the end of the admis- sion process,” said an DTE officer. After enlisting their choice of colleges, students can decide whether to “freeze” or remain in the “float” mode. “If a student is happy with the allotment of college and wants to secure admission, he can select the freeze option and go to the college and pay the fees,” he added. These candidates will then be out of the next round of admission. Those not happy with the institute or the course allotted to them can decide to remain afloat and continue being a part of the centralized admission process (CAP). The DTE expects students who are allotted a seat in a college that is their first option to opt for the same and be out of the CAP. In the next round, more students will be allotted seats and as they select the “freeze”, they will be out of the next round. “The last and fourth round will be unique and it will allow all candidates to participate and thus avail of betterment,” said the DTE officer. But this process will not be used for PGDBM admissions; candidates will have to go to each institute for admission.
