Dr. V.N. Bedekar Institute of Management Studies (VNBIMS) College GDPI Experience
________
Venue: VPMS bedekar institute of management thane
time: 12-1 pm

went 1 hr early to the venue, this helped as gave me time to relax a fill the candidate profile properly, and many late comers were struggling with the form completion till the last min…
First the Gd…Topics were not that gr8
Group Discussion
GD Topics:
1) the past belongs to us but we don’t belong to the past, we belong to the present and we r the makers of the future
2) generation x: drivers of our future or are they our lost souls…

I voted for second topic but unfortunately the first was discussed…
the grp consisted of 10 members….the grp was taking nonsense for some time…people were giving irrelevant examples…thts when I pitched in I just gave 3-4 relevant points whenever I felt the grp was drifting away from the topic…the panel was interrupting in between discussion and urging the silent ones to speak…finally we were asked to conclude I wanted to but a hyperactive member of the grp(the one giving the most unnecessary egos) started…
overall good one at least for me..Though the second topic was way better…hard luck
Personal Interview
next the pi…immediately after gd we were sent to separate rooms for pi…i was the first candidate after lunch so was expecting some heavy duty power packed pi session…but it went smooth was more a discussion on india, develpoment and current affairs: some q&a from my inteview

glancing thro my profile 2 male panelist (one old p1,other middle aged p2)

me: justified…said something about BT cotton and India stats..Etc

p1: which specialisation and why?
Me: marketing gave reason…
p1: give me imp aspects of marketing?
Me: told

p2 outtalk the blue
p2: wht is BT in BT cotton?
Me: told

Venue: Bedekar, Thane
Time: 9-10 A.M
I was let in at 8.30…I filled the Candidate Profile form in 5 mines…already had it ready with me thanks to you pays…
Group Discussion
GD started at 9…topics were:
1. we criticize the fault rather than the person.
2. The 6th pay commission would reduce corruption.

I wanted the 2nd one…but everybody else voted for the 1st…Donna why…

There was a guy who worked in recruiting firm, got himself thinking that he was the best…but all he did was put forward irrelevant points…he made the gd look like a fish market…sadly the moderators ended the gd in 10 mins…I put forth 2-3 points…i think i got 12-13 marks…I glanced at the score sheet while leaving the gd room.

Personal Interview
The PI was good…2 male interviewers…1 were helpful…the other tried to cross question…I was prepared…so not an issue…pi went well…

I came out at 9.30…amazing Bedekar gdpi

I had my GD today.
Venue: VPM Bedekar
Time: 10-11
Group Discussion
GD Topics: Playing to win requires Commitment
MNC- r they devils in disguise? – This was selected
The GD was very nice not a fish market. Got to give some 3-4 points. Overall very nice.

Personal Interview
PI was very nice too. The panelists were some oldies. Simple questions like,
Wat is Sensex the short form for?
What is the law of diminishing marginal utility?
My previous work experiences?
3 ministers with portfolios in the ministry of Mr. Manmohan Singh.
Why MBA etc
Simple and sweet.

Venue : VPM BEDEKAR Thane
TIME SLOT: 2-3
Group Discussion
First of all we had our GD. We were 14 of us in a batch (one absent included). The topics given to us were:
1.Administration leads to corruption (Something of that sort)
2.Should the Govt provide unemployment allowance to the unemployed.
Obviously the unanimous choice was the second one…
Some points that were disussed were like allowance will be misused. Instead of giving an allowance the govt should give basic skills training and all. Allowances may not reach the needy due to corruption. And the vast population of India may not be revived just with unemployment allowances.

I had 5-6 attempts. On the whole GD was good….
The moderators make sure everyone gets a chance to speak
Personal Interview
Then comes the PI
the were two panelists
P1: middle aged woman
P2: Middle aged Man
P1: Tell me about yourself
ME: ek saans mein sab bol diya lol……

ME: blah…blah…
P2: What is PET scan?
ME: blah…blah…
P2: How does u distinguish between cancerous and good tissue?
Me: blah…blah….
P2: What is Chemotherapy?
ME: unfortunately didn’t know much about it
so said don’t know sir
P1: Who won elections from north Mumbai?
ME: blah…blah…just went thru it while scrolling the news paper

P1: Asked me how many constituencies are there in Kalian
Me: don’t know Sir
P1: How will u boost up Education and healthcare sector? (Had mentioned it in my profile sheet)
Me:blah…..blah…..

Had my GD/PI today morning.
Venue-Thane, Bedekar college.
Time-9 to 10 am on 3/6/09

Reached at 8.15am.Was asked to register and was given candidate profile form.Filled it thoroughly with due care as to be able to justify each and every statement…Had to fill only once. Some centres ask to fill two for both the panelists.
Group Discussion
Then was taken to conference room on 2nd floor.Good infrastructure of this college.Table is semicircular with comfortable seating arrangement.Hall is air conditioned.Asked to sign attendance sheet.Three panelists got seated and gave instructions.
One lady came from outside room with a sealed envelope at around 8.55am and opened it and gave 2 topics-
1.Yesterdays wars were fought for supremacy, while future wars will be fought for market share.
2.There is no need of MBA for successful career in management.

15 people present.3 including me chose 1 st topic.Rest chose 2nd.
then suddenly one panelist pointed at a girl and asked her to introduce. I was shocked as we all were thinking that we had a few minutes for noting down points.Theek hain.
The girl gave a pathetic start and fumbled at the end, so I took the opportunity and gave a neat start by defining MBA and stating what exactly the course is like.
Then a few students directly jumped to conclusions whether it is good or bad.
The panelist in between pointed out a few candidates and asked them to speak.Overall everybody spoke atleast once. Was a peaceful GD though not upto the mark.
Points discussed-
Experience necessary or not
Egs-Dhirubai ambani, KV kamath, tata,
even so called good managers could not prevent collapse of lehmann
soft skills are learnt in mngmt colls
family businesses managed without mba
curriculum of mba makes us risk averse
mba narrows down way of thinking

Most of them were beating around the bush.

After 20 minutes of GD, we were alloted different locations where we were supposed to go for pi.Mine was on 1st floor-room no.10

Personal Interview
2 panelists-(male around 45yrs and female in her 40s)
My graduation is in medicine(MBBS), so the first question was- WHY MBA?
Had worked hard on this and spoke continuously for 5 minutes regarding my plan and vision. Both panelists seemed extremely convinced and satisfied.
Then went to my profile sheet and asked regarding my extracurriculars.
I have presented a research in Poland, so asked about the research.
Asked that how will you maintain ethics
Ethics in clinical research industry.
Were very happy with my answers.
Of the 15 minutes, I spoke for almost 14 minutes with conviction.
They liked my concrete nature, I think.
So, at the end no questions were left and then greeted me bye with an extremely satisfied face…

My suggestion-
Write your profile form sensibly and please give sensible justification for what you have written. Dont just fill the form for the sake of it…
Best of luck to everybody…

Venue: Thane Bedekar
Reached venue by 10.30am
Collected the candidate profile form..Was asked to sit in the waiting room and fill the form.I had just started to fill it when announcement was made to report for GD immediately..
Strange!!
Group Discussion
Anyways,
Total students = 15
Absent = 1
Net = 14

Great !! (10 – 11 – 12 – 13 – 14)
Everyone of us started to scribble down the details of profile there and then!

5 mins later a lady came in with a sealed envelope in her hand.
She announced the rules as the panelists took their places.
Panelists:
M1 a gentleman in his early 30s
M2 a lady in her mid 30s
M3 a gentleman in his late 50s
Topics :
1] You are product of your environment. [Abstract]
2] Advantages of co education. [Social]

7 of us were in favor of the 1st one.

2 mins were given to think.
I jotted down the points..
– what is environment, living and non living matter
– how does it affect one’s upbringing and all..
– social economical backgrounds as environment etc.
I wanted to start the GD but cud not,
A guy started speaking rather to himself and he was quite amusing!
He spoke about pollution!!
Haha..and people started to think in that manner..

that is when I said the topic is more about the social environment and its impact on our day to day life..
I defined the subjective term ENVIRONMENT..
and started to talk about the different types of social environments..
economical hindrances that restrict someone from achieving his dreams..bla bla bla..

A girl interrupted and started to talk about pollution again

I said let them jabber in order to get some negated advantage..
hehe..

M1 got a little frustrated..
M2 stopped them..
while M3 re-explained the topic!

I got the chance to speak again..
I talked about the predisposed advantages the upper midlle class has in terms of education, health care, social awareness..

again i was cut by a young girl who spoke for the first time..
she talked about the indian culture ..good point..(I missed it)
western culture – education, technology etc..
so I agreed to what she said..

then the topic arrived at politics..
i talked about how politicians create an environment based on region, religion and caste system..
and how people are prone to fall victims..
this herd mentality is because of this environment..

i talked about upbringing of a child – job oriented thinking – makes his servitude greater than ever..

then the M3 stopped the GD.

Asked the three guys who dint utter a single word to speak up..

The first one started to talk about the advantages of co education..
Blunder babu..

The second guy said something to the moderators which none of us understood…

The third one preferred to remain mum as he was asked to speak and face the members of GD and not the moderators.Poor chap…

Then they asked us to conclude..
I just pounced on the opportunity..was waiting for it desperately!!
Concluded properly..

Cud have been much better but under the given circumstances it was a decent show.

No fish market situation…

We were asked to leave the GD hall and wait outside respective PI classrooms.
We filled out the Candidate Profiles..

I was second to go in.
So revised all the basics, facts, introduction line, background why MBA, what next etc stuff..
Calmed myself

Hello Everyone… herez my experience

GD Date: 10th June 2009
GD Venue: VPM Bedekar College
GD Batch: Batch 18___ 5 to 6 pm
Group Count: 14/15

I reached the centre by 4.30. We were taken to the conference room by 4.50. Some fields were left to filled up in the form. Later completed it before PI.
Group Discussion
There were 3 panelists (all men) P1, P2, P3. A lady entered to announce the topics.
Topic 1: 20 years from now newspapers will not survive
Topic 2: When you hire people who are smarter than you are, you prove you are smarter than they are.
Immediately the lady asked to vote. So had to go for 1st topic as we didnt get to read the topics twice.
11 voted for 1st topic. 3 for 2nd.
We hardly had a minute to write down points. A girl started with the topic but directly took a stand. Next a boy started:…”I completely disagree with your point.. pointing towards the first girl…” ( Guys never do this)
I came in third and gave a proper introduction regarding the origin of newspapers and later evolution through various stages. I could contribute around 5 to 6 points trying to give directions… like Urban/ Rural, Print media and other advanced forms, Global perspective, as everyone was talking only from the Indian point of view, etc..
Overall a good GD. Panel interrupted once or twice and also asked almost 6 people to talk as they werent able to talk.
But the GD ended in 15 mins.

Personal Interview
There were two panelists one madam and a sir. Both were very kind.
Sir: Whats your name?
Me: Told.
Sir: Which stream you’ve graduated from?
Me: Commerce
Sir: Okay, so what were your subjects for final year?
Me: Cost A/c, Mgt A/c, Fin A/c, Taxation, Audit, Principles of Mgt
Sir must be accounts professor. Showed me a mobile and asked…
Sir: Tell me what costs are involved in arriving the price of the mobile.
Luckily i remembered it and explained in very plain language. He might have liked it.
Sir: Good. Stages to prepare Balance Sheet?
Me: Told
Madam was reading my form. Pointed out my academic profile to sir saying
Madam: She has been very good in academics. Has distinction throughout.
Sir: Yes. Thats why she could answer my questions.
Then they asked about my work ex
Sir: Tell me about your job profile. What were your responsibilities.
Me: Explained in detail
Sir: Why do you want to do this course.
Me: Explained and luckily no grilling on that. They were convinced.
Sir: How can india be a global power?
Me: Stated infrastructure development.
At this point Sir asked from where do you get this. Which magazine or newspaper. He meant to ask me whether i’ve copy pasted it from somewhere. I was confused initially. But when i got his point could convince him about it. (Hopefully) Coz i had honestly not copy pasted it.
Sir: What is the difference between public company and private company.
Me: Told
Sir: What is the diff between public ltd company and private ltd company.
Me: Explained. Took a pause in between. But sir encouraged me to go ahead.
Overall the PI experience ws really good.

PS: Can anyone tell me how is the marking system at Bedekar GDPI ?
