1. IIFT GD PI WAT Experience
Before posting the details,i would just say one thing ” anybody who is fearing what will happen in the GD/PI ,kindly shed all your fears,a very well managed process, great panelists for interview, helpful seniors and a very quick process”

Xth – 80.40
XIIth – 91.50
GRAD – 61.80 / BCOM(MARKETING)/ St.Xavier’s College , Kolkata
Essay topic : More indians have mobile phones than toothbrushes
A good topic ,lots to write about,a word limit of 300 words and time limit 20mins.Wrote some points regarding lack of inclusive growth etc.etc.

GD TOPIC : FDI OUTFLOW FROM INDIA
was fortunate to have a very mature group. No fish market situation and the process was very good. Lasted around an hour , everybody got a chance to speak. I pitched in some 4 to 5 points and everyone became the moderator exactly once. The panelists told us that we discussed the matter in a very cordial manner and it seemed as if it was a board meeting going on. No cutting short anyone.

PI …
There were two panelists …both males one was a very nice man told me to feel comfortable and the second person was there to just observe me.
Q1. What does your name mean ????
I do not have a very uncommon name but he still asked me…told him the meaning
Q2. What is Marketing???
Asked me because my undergraduate specialisation is marketing. Grilled me n this question for some time. But seemed satisfied in the end. In the end told ‘ When you go out just think about the question , if you do not understand, i will tell you ”
Q3. What is your aim in life???
Q4. What is current account deficit??
Q5. What are the three golden rules of accounting??
Told him all the three
Q6. How can the indian government stop the flow of chinese goods into india???
This was my best answer and the panelists seemed really satisfied.
OVERALL IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE ….HOPE THAT THE RESULTS TURN OUT TO BE ‘ A CONVERT’

Graduation marks/Stream/College : B Tech ECE
IIFT marks : Cut off boundary case
Work ex : 30 months, IT Giant
Extra curricular : School topper/CSR etc

Interview Centre:- Hotel Golconda, Hyderabad

Essay topic:- “More indians possess mobile than toothbrushes”-the implications?
Comments about your performance : Started with liberalization & how FDI led to boom in Telecom Sector.Managed to jot down mostly the positive points – How it helps the rural India to connect etc.Concluded by saying, good policy making could lead to similar boom in the areas of basic amenities too which need attention.

GD topic and a description:- FDI Outflows in India – boom or bane

During the 2 min intro, though I was the 5-6th to speak, I was the 1st to speak of it as a boom for India. After the 2 min round ended for everyone, initiated the GD with my point How we can expect mutual growth & How India as an emerging company has now more of a doer role. GD followed very smoothly with people talking for as well as against it, putting together points like Airtel investing in Africa etc. An unusual part being, the 1st 5 mins, only the 4 girls of our group were speaking without much interruptions! I guess ladies-first it was!
This was the part I was most scared of, but IIFT GD really lived to its expectations in our group, well-organized no fish market scenario. However, our GD finished even before the moderators could say time-up!
& yes we didn’t have any moderator from the students.

Personal Interview:-
P1,P2(Smiling Lady),P3(A gentleman with not-so-motivating looks)

P1:
1. Tell me about yourself
2. Career Objectives
3. Gave a case of him being an entrepreneur, & asked me what all he needs to consider when he is expanding his business globally.

He transfers the ball to P2

1. Asked about few sports related ECs in my form – which sport you like better.
2. Something related to what you liked about your company/work.
3. Had mentioned about helping community so asked how.

Over to P3

1. He just asks me about conditions in Greece?! Are you aware about it.
Started answering, wasn’t expecting as didnt hear about any such thing from the previous experiences with the same panel. So fumbled a little which even made P1 ask if I knew about it. I said yes yes! & then continued further.

Any other comments – Be your own.No surprises in terms of the process. friendly panelists(apart from P3 of course), but really hoping they dont use Written score much to differentiate between the candidates!

Essay topic: “More indians have mobile phones than toothbrushes” – the implications

I think I did an okay job here, but I needed to write another paragraph for it to be complete.

GD Topic: “FDI Outflow from India: Boon or bane”

It was a total fish market – picture 12 people making their own points repeatedly all at the same time. The moderator bell wasn’t much use either.

I did manage to get two or three points in, but I’m not satisfied at all with my performance.

Personal Interview:

There were three members in the panel: a lady, an old professor and a younger professor (or alumnus)

1) What is the Web?
2) How do you like working in ?
3) Why do you want to do an MBA?
4) What makes you think your venture will be successful? (Entrepreneurship)

I don’t really remember the remaining questions. In any case, I thought my interview went okay.

A word about the panel and the faculty. They were all really kind, and didn’t try to intimidate. They let a guy in after the essay had begun, told him not to worry, that they’d give him extra time at the end, and even fetched a glass of water for him because he appeared out of breath!

Essay topic:- 20 years of Liberalization- India’s balance sheet

Comments about your performance : It was my dream topic…was expecting such a topic from IIFT and prepared well in advance..

GD topic and a description:- The youth of today’s India are healthy in mind but weaker in body.

Personal Interview:-

1)Tell us about yourself.
2)You are from electrical background, presently working with software…how do you justify?
3) So, you dont regret anything?
4) Given a chance to shift to another vertical in your company?
5) Why international business? (told them about my entrepreneurship plans)
6) Do you know any person who has done an international MBA and was successful as an entrepreneur.
7) But Tata and birla dint have MBA. So, for entrepreneurship, MBA is not essential. Do you agree with me? (I agreed with him and told them I want to cut short the time period )
Bill gates became the richest person at a very young age. Why not you?
9) What exactly is foreign exchange reserve? What does it signify?
10) How do we obtain it?
11) How does India earn dollars then?
12) So, India- does it import more or export more?
13) What are the top 2 sectors of imports for india?

Any other comments –

PI was very cool…Only thing is that we have to maintain our cool too…Nothing on acads or even from the CV form…atleast for me..

Did a good job. Rose points about inclusive social growth. The problems of high poverty in some sections- the rise of maoists, etc.

GD Topic: “FDI Outflow from India: Boon or bane”
An occasional fish market, used my 2 mins well, but could enter only once during the GD. In fact, 2-3 people were speaking all the time. The moderator entered once to allow a lady to speak.

Personal Interview:

There were three members in the panel: a lady(most probably, Dr. Niti Nandini Chatnani), Dr K.T. Chacko, and a gentleman with a turban.
Chacko sir was a bit serious thruout the pi, but the other panelists were very cool and relaxed.

Here goes the transcript:

Me: gud afternun madam, gud afternun sir.
NNC: gud afternun, pls sit down. (Others simply nodded).
NNC: Dhiresh, u had to wait a long time, was this an advantage?
ME: umm..noo..not exactly an advantage, but not much of a disadvantage either.
NNC: So u work for wipro..

NNC: Wat kind of work u do there?
ME: Told.
NNC: Wat do u knw about islamic banking (I had said sumthng about my project for a bank in the middle east).

IIFT GD PI Experience

Centre : Chennai
Essay topic: Tourism potential of India; strategies to harness it
Could have done much better. My eyes lit up when i heard the topic. Ye to school wala essay hai, upar se 20 min , fod dunga ye to But time just flew, spent a lot of time and more importantly wasted a lot of words on trying to give a background. Couldn’t make many concrete points, conclusion bhi ek line ka hi ho paya and time was up
My advice to others Cut the crap and get down to your point straight away , keep in mind there is a word limit of 300 words.

GD Topic: “Targetted vs Universal food security in India”

We were given a good 5 mins to jot down our points and then a civilized discussion followed for the first half. Utilized my 2 mins well, but didn’t really make many points when the floor was thrown open for all. Plus didn’t really use the bell either.

Personal Interview:

A lady who had a disarming smile (L), a serious looking gentleman (M1) and a grandfatherly looking sir (M2)

M1 (did most of the talking) – So you want to do MBA in finance? Explain

Me- I had known all along this question was coming , i tried a lot to form an answer yesterday but nothing impressive came to mind. So just spoke whatever came to mind in the interview

M1 didn’t seem too satisfied, i don’t blame him, so he probed me further on certain basic financial concepts. I think i did pretty well in this part of the interview. Since i had a lot to say , i took my own sweet time to explain

L- So why switch to IT and then MBA?
Me- Answered and answered well

M2- Tell me about college and extra curriculars
Me- Was pretty frank in this part and didn’t try to window dress the facts. Everyone started smiling.

M2- Asked me about a book i had mentioned in the form ( the book was rather uncommon). And yet i’m pretty sure he had read it too

Me- Explained a lil about the story, why i liked it, a little about the author.

That was it. Around 10 minutes

A good experience, especially the GD. Need to work more on my WAT skills the faculty are extremely nice, their intention is not to give anyone a hard time, so just be calm, be mindful of what you speak in the interview. If you plan on using any jargon be sure you know the in and out of it,else avoid. That’s about it. Also a blazer is not compulsary, so all those out there wondering ‘suit khareedu kya’, don’t worry, formal shirt trousers and a tie would be just fine

First everyone got 1.5 to 2 minutes to speak..then general discussion..everyone had to moderate for about 2-3 minutes…some ppl were for FDI some against it…examples of Airtel SAIL ONGC etc came up…FDI outflow as a tool to improve diplomatic relationships…and much more…in the end everyone was given a chance to summarize…

Personal Interview:- mostly based on my form…discussions on

Essay topic:- Exploring India’s Tourism Potential : Strategic Options.
Comments about your performance :

<> .. it went good. I guess.

GD topic and a description:-
Targeted vs Universal Food Security in India

I was the 5th one, and every points that i have prepared have been covered till then. I had to do a value addition and made a remark about .. UIDAI scheme, political thinking (just passed the bill before 5 states’ election .. made some good points… 3 times entered into the GD apart from the brief introduction part and the conclusion part).

GD overall was good for the Group, even moderators were very nice, and they seem satisfied.

Personal Interview:-
Three Panelists:
P1 – a middle aged lady (40-45 yrs) .. more on technical side
P2- an aged lady (55+)
P3 – a high professional person (don’t think he s from IIFT)

After entering the room, there was silence prevailing for some secs, every one was going thru my resume.
P2 asked P1 to ask:

P1: So you are a Computer Engineer and had been with for last 2 years. Good. What was your role?
Me: Answered ..
P1: So u are more into Computer Networking .. .
Me: No, I am more into Database Management Systems.
P1: Oh..DBMS… there is a term … Relational DBMS… what is the difference between RDBMS and DBMS…
Me: Smiled..because this s the most common question asked everywhere..and i guess she could sense my answer thru my smile only .. i was just about to introduce DBMS and RDBMS.. she stopped me in between….

P1: What do you mean by slicing?
Me: I don’t know. I have heard about the term, but don’t remember.

P1: Can we have two primary keys in a table?
Me: I have answered… she seems satisfied.

P1: I am done. P3, u can carry on.

P3: You play football, but read books a lot on cricket. Tell me in one sentence about the book .. Indian Summers by John Wright (I have wrote this on CV)
Me: answered. seems satisfied.

P3: What is present scenario of Indian Cricket Team?
Me: answered. Seems satisfied.

P3: What do you prefer more: neutral family or joint family?
Me: I misinterpret the question, and went on discussing about our neutral and joint family…(20-30 secs)

P3: What have i asked you?
Me: Oh..I am sorry.. I prefer neutral family and the reason already i have cited before.

P2: How North-East can be flourished or how would you develop North-East?
Me: Education is not a problem there, as states like manipur, tripura, assam has very high literacy rates, but the main problem there is industrialisation. For working, they have to shift to other parts of the country. Due to connectivity issue, we can’t launch any manufacturing industries, but yes, we can have IT Companies(BPOs, KPOs, Service Sector industries etc.) like those have in Guwahati, but beyond that we can explore.

P2: seems very much satisfied. I am done.

P3: One last question: IIM Shillong or IIFT Delhi.
Me: Sorry sir, i don’t fit into their criteria, and i would never be part of IIM Shillong(everyone laughed like anything).

P3: If now only i am giving u a chance to go into IIM Shillong, whatever be the criteria–now what?
Me: I said, my profile matches more with IIFT Delhi(why IIFT.. gave here)

P3: So u don’t want to do anything for the welfare of North East?
Me: Its not necessary that i can contribute only while reading at IIM Shillong, I can contribute even from IIFT Delhi.

But don’t know..he seems to be vagued.

Everyone said they are done.

Any other comments –

Please pour in … how was it. This is the actual interview scenario, I have depicted here. I am afraid.

Well, well. I’ve put a fanatical follower of Arsenal F.C. up in my CV..
Please oh pleasee let them ask about Arsenal and EPL, and not stuff like why MBA and random technical questions

Dude, you can never know. I have heard people with 7-8 minutes of interviews in IIMs, IIFT, XLRI etc. getting through when they thought there was no way they were getting selected. And people who thought they just got a cakewalk and a cool interview of 15-20 mins who didn’t make it.

Mine too was 8-10 minutes only. They were highly satisfied with my academic performance. Said I was a very good engineer in a good job with IIM calls. Why the hell do I want to come to IIFT when I am certainly getting into an IIM. I told them you can never be sure, blah blah… So just keep your fingers crossed man..

Is it neutral family or nuclear family? Kindly answer.

it is time when i will break free from all my struggles,..hope GOD is listening

Can anyone who has now gone through IIFT GDplease post what exactly is the procedure of IIFT GD??I heard every person is assigned a role of a moderator/ and each one is given time to introduce the topic??Please elaborate the process??(One more thing If every one is made to speak on topic 1-2 mins each befr actual GD, it is very likely that major chunk of points are spoken out in that in introductionSo what to do after that?? Can we repeat the thing said in intro?)
They announce the GD topic. You are given 5 mins to jot down your points. After that one by one everyone speaks for 2 mins on the topic. So that covers mostly 12*2 = 20-25 mins. Then they ask us to start the open discussion.

It is obviously good to add more points, or if someone else had talked about another new point & if you have any opinion about it, you can always speak for/against of that person’s opinion. With 12 different people speaking, there are few new points which will be brought up & you can discuss them/or your own points further! (All this from my 2nd Day experience)

Though we didn’t have any moderator thing, unlike other groups. But usually, a bell is passed from 1 person to other in the GD & that person is expected to ‘moderate’ the GD.This includes, stopping people when they are speaking together or asking someone who is trying to speak but unable to speak, or asking to summarize etc.

IIFT GD PI Experience

 Today’s experience

Centre: MSME, Chennai

Essay- Food safety; essence & execution
I could have performed better in this section; completely forgot the data & other stuff relating it

GD topic- Children grown in nuclear family are more confident & independent
The group was smooth, nothing like fish market ( though one panelist said it was a fish markt one point time, I personally dont feel so), after some point of time, we were going about the same points & one panelist said he was not getting new dimensions in the topic ( the topic was so narrow; nothing much angles to it)

Interview: ( I dont know how to say this…. it was an express interview-4 min)

On an average they took only 10-15 min for each, but mine was 4 ( will they reject me?)

P1: Qn on a personal front first- about my family

P1: why MBA/IIFT in a different form?

P1: asked something on disinvestment of defense sector ( Im from defense production)
Me- was 100% for it.

P2 (lady); She was going through my profile sheet for a long time & found one error in the family income column(where i wrote only my parental income)..

me: explained it was my parental income,, she laughed.

P1: Cat percentile & calls?
P1: Im done
P3: Observer, said done
P2: done
P1; thank you..

IIFT GD PI Experience
Hello all,

Interview Centre:- chennai

Essay topic:- Food safety measures in India: essence and execution

Comments about your performance : Wrote the basics for food safety and present scenerio. Focussed on government policies and need of the time. Some gyaan also added.

GD topic and a description:-Children brought up in nuclear family have more confidence and independence. Topic started well after a brief instruction from panel. Initially everyone got chance sequentially to speak, it was then thrown open for all. then it turned in fish market which they say happens very rarely in IIFT gd pi WAT. But then you should always be ready for any such surprises. Topic was easy, everyone was speaking there views. Some were with the topic, majority against. Lots of points came in. Though midway people started narrowing it down to just one word confidence but after sometime again things were back on track. mostly everyone participated well. In the end, panel person asked to take stand whether with or against. No summary was asked. Overall a good experience.

Personal Interview:-
3 members, all cool and calm
1. Asked about senior person in company, told.
2. Asked about company’s plant location, told.
3. Asked about company’s competitors, told but his reply was that since years it’s been the same company in competition, I clarified wrt product segments.
4. other panel person took over and asked number of states then my states history of formation (latest 3 states) about my state and how I can bring development there, I told some ways, he didnt look much satisfied because I used a term which had entirely different meaning, which i thought otherwise.
5. Some questions on basic economics.
6. Then last panel member asked about book I read, I told. He discussed a little bit.
then suddenly It got over
Any other comments –
Use only those terms which you are very clear, because it may create issue at that time.
ATB to all puys. Do well.

First everyone got 2 minutes to speak..not a lot of people could speak for the entire 2 min duration. But some great points that came up. I chose not to take a stand and put across an alternate perspective that parents now are moving away from nuclear families to joint families due to child’s well being, value systems, blah blah.

But the discussion that followed was atrocious! Complete fish market. I was fortunately at an advantage because of my location. But was stuck between 2 loud people . Still managed to get across some points but i’m confident we as a group screwed it up big time!

Personal Interview:- mostly based on my form
2 panelists – one was faculty(F), dunno abt the other gentleman (X). And me

X: Tell me something abt yourself – Answered
X: Why MBA? and Why marketing? – Answered
X: There was a recent takeover in the market research industry. Give us some details. (My work ex was in MR) – Answered
X: What was the country of origin of the firm that was taken over? – Dunno
X: Name the top 3 firms globally in your sector – Could not answer properly.
X: But this is something about you industry you should know this.
Me: sir, what has been presented and my insight into the industry is from the point of view of an analyst not what happens in the M&A; space. (After thought : not a great answer but I had to hold my own)
F comes in.
F: Okay, you have mentioned you like reading about Indian politics and economy in your leisure time. I’ll ask you 2 questions.
1. 2004 – NDA was expected to come to power but UPA won the general elections. 2009 – UPA had a second term. what do you think will happen in 2014?
Me: Told him i’ll think out loud and in the process arrive at an answer. Told him about certain states where just these 2 parties are ruling and who might win in those particular states. Basically discussed UP, Maharashtra, Andhra, Kerala and Gujarat. Faculty wanted to me conclude and so told them there is a leadership crisis in both parties and it would be a scenario similar to the time when PV Narsimha Rao or Vajpayee were PMs. But NDA will manage to come to power.

2. In which direction will the Dollar-rupee rate go in?
Told him about the growing US economy and that Obama will be voted out. Gave a case for the Republicans in support of Mitt Romney and told them that he would be a good president which would mean the dollar will be strong. But also that India will also grow and 2013 may be a very good year for India given that it’s doing well even in the current scenario. Estimated the exchange rate to be stable and between 48-50 range.

Overall, it was an average experience. But the whole process was very well conducted. GD definitely played spoilsport. But I’m awaiting comments.

As for the surprise, (I haven’t forgotten!!), a good number of people wrote an essay about FOOD SECURITY and not FOOD SAFETY! I was not a part of this group though. But IMHO, the essay was more about standards, adulteration, ISO, consumer forums, et al. Sadly, people missed this probably because they were in a hurry.

My only appeal to people following this: Try to maintain composure during the GD plus try and understand how to use the bell. If the discussion becomes a fish market, you all will suffer. Try and learn from what happened to us.
IIFT GD PI Experience
profile:-Overall, it was an average experience. But the whole process was very well conducted. GD definitely played spoilsport. But I’m awaiting comments. All the best puys! Give it your best shot!

Firstly its nice to see so many gooners on this thread

IIFT GD IMO is one of the best parts of the entire process. But, the selection procedure is as such extensive and thorough ,even if one is impressive in the gd , he/she will get a different panel in interview and vice versa. So its pretty fair on that account.

Going by the posts of the few people who have shared their experiences i think its been pretty much similar for everyone. So i believe the differentiator would be the marks in the exam and overall profile, although i hope the case is otherwise.Tough to say who will make it and who wouldn’t, i just hope marks don’t have much of a bearing on the final convert

The trouble with being in the rat race is that even if you win, you’re still a rat

IIFT GD PI Experience

Today’s experience Centre: MSME, ChennaiEssay- Food safety; essence & execution I could have performed better in this section; completely forgot the data & other stuff relating itGD topic- Children grown in nuclear family are more confident & independentThe group was smooth, nothing like fish market ( though one panelist said it was a fish markt one point time, I personally dont feel so), after some point of time, we were going about the same points & one panelist said he was not getting new dimensions in the topic ( the topic was so narrow; nothing much angles to it)Interview: ( I dont know how to say this…. it was an express interview-4 min)On an average they took only 10-15 min for each, but mine was 4 ( will they reject me?)P1: Qn on a personal front first- about my familyP1: why MBA/IIFT in a different form?P1: asked something on disinvestment of defense sector ( Im from defense production)Me- was 100% for it.P2 (lady); She was going through my profile sheet for a long time & found one error in the family income column(where i wrote only my parental income)..me: explained it was my parental income,, she laughed.P1: Cat percentile & calls?P1: Im done P3: Observer, said doneP2: done P1; thank you..

Chill out dude .. even in my case the interview duration was less because of time constraint. All the best for the results

Mine was not so brutal. Btw, did you tell them your CAT score and calls?? (What is it actually??) My interview went too informal after I told them my IIM calls. The panelists thought that I m just giving IIFT for the sake of giving an interview, which is totally not the case. I think you suffered a more intense version of CAT-score bias like me

I hope we make it through man

What i mention below is not verbatim but a gist of how things went in the interview room

G1: You did Chem Engg from NIT, Trichy? Why did you get into Sales
Me: Placement offer was withdrawn towards the end of the academic year, off-campus in 2009 was very difficult. Hence, joined an IT services start-up. Currently working for a diff company

L: You can do part time MBA as well. Why do you want to get into a residential programme?
Me: Part-time MBA is good for ppl who wish to stay with their org in along run. not the same with me. Full time course-> diverse set of thoughts, Competitive peer group, better judge of student capabilities.

L starts laughing, the other two smile.
L: So you are well read about the current affairs.Good. Smiles again.
G1:Will the Euro Crisis Affect India?
Me: In the Long run, our economy is well placed to do well. Not many countries from the Euro zone feature in our top trading partners and some more gyaan.

All Seemed Satisfied.

G1: You’ve mentioned that you are proficient Hindi. How?
Me: Resided in Delhi for 10 years as my Father was transferred there.

Comments:
The panel is pleasant. They are not there to stress you out but they want to know you. They also want to see how consistent are you with your answers wrt to your CV form. Also, do not make smart-ass comments, can go against you. I did that out of habit with my customers.

Regarding GD, 20-25 mins was for the initial phase whr everyone spoke individually, 1.how long was the latter half/open discussion.2. Regarding the use of bell, how does it pass on, do we have to keep a tab on the time and then pass on the bell, how long is the bell with each person.3. How long does the whole process take to completeSome1 do ans properly
1: The open discussion lasts for 15-20 minutes, followed by a summarization from all individually for a minute each.

2: The actual moderators / panel pass it on. You need not keep any tabs on the time. Just make sure the GD continues in a civilized manner for the time you have the bell.

3: It takes approx 3-4 hours, but, if you are among the first people to be interviewed, then you can expect to be free in 2.5 hours or even less. Our process was as follows:

9.15 – Your group is allotted and you are made to sit accordingly
9.30 – Essay Writing Starts
9.50 – Essay Writing Ends
10 minute break
10.00 – GD starts
10.55 – GD ends
20 minute break with snacks served
11.15 – PI starts. 1 batch has 12 people. Depending on your location in the list, you can approximate what time it takes for your interview to start and conclude.

Essay Topic : Jasmine Revolution And its Global Repercussions
Went well i had a lot of data on it which i wrote i frankly felt 300 words is less

GD: Indian Cinema is not influencing enough social change:- may have been worded differently but that was the gist
was a pretty generic topic but group was cordial i was asked to start speaking first which i thought was an advantage as most people had similar points. over all GD went well was able to add 4-5 more points later on in the discussion

PI:- 3 men all very cordial and cheerful.
p1: tell me something about yourself.
me: answered well told i want to be a fund manager
p1: what is a head and shoulders pattern and what does it signify
me: answered that its 3 consecutive peaks with the middle one being the highest . technical pattern and it signifies bearishness
p1: where would the market go by march end
me: very uncertain will depend on the budget and the policy decisions by the government but global sentiment is good and fund inflow should remain positive.
p1: name 3 stocks which you would buy and why.
me: answered excellently.
p1: what is book value and what does it signify
me: own funds: i.e equity capital+ reserves and surplus upon number of shares outstanding.
if BV is more than market price then usually the share is available at a cheap price . however it would depend on the price at which the assets are recorded
p2: you mention you want to start an hedge fund what would be the size of funds you would like to manage.
me: as large as possible i would never keep in mind an upper limit.
p2: what exactly is a hedge are there any hedges you have carried out as of now.
me: could answer reasonably well but gave only 1 example by which next question was asked
p2: hedge funds have been in the news for wrong reasons lately kindly elaborate.
me: answered that cant paint the whole industry with the same brush then explained about the rajaratnam case gallion fund mentioned other indictments like rajat gupta also mentioned some high profile interogations like loyd blankflein , ajit jain etc but also said that there have been honest hedge funds and that Berkshire Hathaway started as a hedge fund.
p3: you mention godfather as a novel that you have read what are 2 traits of Michael Corleone that you admire and why.
me: i said i admire the powerful dialogues and the silent aura of fear and power that Michael resonates.
p3: in economics you must have studied about economies of scale. tell me 2 companies 1 which has obtained economies of scale. and the second which is on its way to achieving economies of scale which can be from any sector.
me: i mentioned Arcelor mittal as the first example talking a bit about the steel industry. and google as an example for the second saying that a lot of products like google + and youtube havint still acheived critical mass like the search engine to become profitable by themselves.
p2 thank you its been a pleasure taking to you
me thank you sir.

overall interview time 25 mins
i think it went pretty well as most questions were asked on my core area which i was able to answer well

Converted!!!

Essay Topic : More Indians have mobile handsets than toothbrush- Implications.
All the cities in India had the same topic on the same day.
Didn’t write a great essay. Felt writing the implications was difficult.

GD: FDI outflows from India- Boon or Bane
40 min GD overall. 2 minutes for organising ur views. Then 2 min intro from each member. 13 pariticipants in total. I was the last one to speak in the order.
Before my intro, I had interpreted the topic as the withdrawal of FDI from India. Was ready with the points to speak. But I realized all others have interpreted it as the FDI done by Indian companies in foreign countries, like Tata buying Jaguar-LR. Herd mentality took over.. even i spoke what everyone else spoke abt (I was the last in queue).

Then the GD started… It was fish market for most of the times. The people with the buzzer tried to bring in sm sense from time to time. Almost all had similar views. Had a decent airtime. pitched in quite a few time. avoided speaking in fish market situations.

PI:- one lady prof(LP), old male prof(MP), alumnus (A)

LP:tell me abt urself?
me: told.
LP: tell me more abt urself, what are you as a person?
me: told
LP: If I meet u after five years in airport, what would ur calling card say?
me: told. basically my short term goals.
MP: what exactly are you working on?
me: told
MP: so u know engines?
me: kinda
MP: what is MPFI.
me: told. asked more qns on the details. answered satisfactorily, even tho it was not my area. I’m an electronics engg
MP: What is this cc in 800cc maruti car?
me: told
MP: asked abt cylinders, pistons
MP: tell why it is bhp and hp
me: told donno.
MP: even i donno.. email me if u get the answer
A: so u have read ‘It happened in India’ by Kishore Biyani. What does he talk abt in it.
me: told abt the Indian way of doing business and not blindly aping the western way.
A: do u think it can be replicated to other sectors?
me: yes. gave some funda. gave an example of tata docomo. hw they adapted to the Indian way.

overall interview time: 10 min
PI was very good. they test you on ur sincerity, clarity. spontaneity is important. People with work-ex.. know ur industry, ur work, recent happenings in ur company, how u were affected etc etc.

During open GD it was fish market from start and spoke hardly once but moderator(dere was no moderator from us)intervnd and asked others to let me speak.putup some point like role of education system as group was discussing abt right to vote and dats was the only thng discuusd in entire GD.Though some tried bring in some more rights. No conclusion from group.GD ended abruptly by mods.
(overall Bad exp)
