Identify And Avoid These Traps While Preparing For CAT Examination!

CAT Exam
Getting ready to give CAT is more like preparing for a battle. In a battle, there are traps everywhere. It’s a war out there with major distractions! Here are the 7 most common traps student’s faces while preparing for CAT. Wrong Methods during Preparation: Opting wrong methods during preparation will, on one hand, dampen student progress. On the other, it will accumulate stress and affect the overall performance considerably. Avoiding Conceptual Understanding: It has been observed that students prefer method-based approach rather than applying a conceptual understanding over the questions. Initially, this approach might serve the purpose, but it can become quite detrimental for students because many a times, despite being framed on similar lines, a slightly off-patterned question becomes difficult to understand. Thus, it is always imperative to apply concepts in each and every topic that you practice. Wrong Choice of Books: Students often make their preparations synonymous to studying with an exhaustive combination of reference books and study material. This practice of combining 2–3 books make the candidate confused and creates misconception. Thus, student end up with less score. Self – Interpretation: When students practice similar questions too often, they develop a tendency to identify and solve them as per their self-interpretation. MCQ questions are often framed in a deceptive manner. Ensure that you read and understand the questions properly before attempting them. As they are also supplemented with incorrect answers, failing to do so will result in negative marking for a question that you could have easily solved. Miss Out of Key Points in the Question Paper: Many students don’t read the question carefully and miss the key points which result in loosing vital marks in the paper. Students should read the entire question carefully in a minute. It is advisable to read each and every word of the question carefully, understand what is being asked and then solve it. Presence of Stop Watch: As CAT examination is set with the clock movement, thus seeks time management. And while attempting for the CAT, timer is set and is present at the screen in front of the candidate.  This makes the student nervous and less confident. To overcome this problem, students must constantly practice in order to increase retention and enhance their skill set in terms of speed and calculation. Wrong Choice of Question: In the paper, examiners give some questions which are tricky and distract the student. The types of questions are to confuse the student. If students are not careful they are bound to fall in the trap and loose marks. So students should try and be very attentive while choosing such questions. These common traps can easily be identified if you keep a keen eye to avoid them. All The Best!!
