IIMB: CAT prescribed cut off

The short list of candidates by IIMB will be based on candidates securing minimum section wise and aggregates percentile scores in the CAT. The percentile cut-off scores for CAT are to be considered as follows apart from other key parameters

Quant & DI Percentile

Verbal & LR percentile

Overall Percentile

Like IIM A and C, the actual CAT cut off scores would be much higher than stated above. The weightage to CAT 2014 scores in shortlisting criteria is 20 at IIMB.

Other Weightage to short list the candidates at IIMB

The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of weighted scores on 5 components namely CAT 2014 scores; 10th board marks; 12th board marks; bachelor degree marks and work experience or professional course to prepare a pre-PI rank list for calling the candidates for the PI round. According to IIMB “Sufficient candidates will be invited for PI to enable selection based on the additional PI evaluation components: (a) note content, (b) note style, (c) personal interview, and (d) review of work experience (if any).

The maximum weightage

The maximum weightage to these 5 components would be as follows

CAT scores

Like IIM A and C, the actual CAT 2014 cut off scores would be much higher than stated in prescribed threshold cut off. The weightage to CAT 2014 scores in shortlisting criteria is 20 at IIMB.

40 Point Weightage X, XII and Graduation

Tha maximum weightage to academic profile for X, XII & Bachelor degree exam is 40 in shortlisting criteria. For X class the weightage is 15 points, for XII the weightage is 10 and for Bachelor degree it is 15.

The candidates’ percentage scores in the 10th and 12th board exams are initially adjusted by dividing each such score by the 90th percentile score obtained in that board. The database of 10th and 12th scores of all CAT applicants of the past two years is used for identifying the 90th percentile score for each 10th and 12th board for this purpose.

Final scores obtained by the candidate are used for the bachelors’ degree and professional degrees (if any). Incomplete or intermediate scores are considered only if the candidate’s final score was pending. For final year bachelor’s degree candidates, their incomplete graduation score would be taken in lieu of final graduation score. Graduation scores are adjusted within their respective categories.

Weightage to Work Experience

Candidates with Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting, and Company Secretary certifications are eligible for weight under professional course. No other professional course is eligible for weight under professional course. The professional course score is also standardized for all candidates in the first shortlist.

The score/weight for work experience is calculated as: Pre PI score for Work Experience = 5x/36 if 0 < x < 36; = 5 if x >= 36, where x is the months of work experience up to September 2014 , as captured in CAT application form (and substantiated in the application to IIMB). This implies that the score will peak at 36 months work experience and will remain at that level for candidates with work experience exceeding 36 months. The work experience score (maximum 5 in the pre-PI stage) will be multiplied by the quality of work experience score on a 5 point scale (0.25-0.5-1)

The other scores of WAT and PI will be accounted for after the final admission round and Candidates will be offered admission accordingly.
