BUT, But. PI – Panel A. Introduction, favorite subject, questions on software engineering and data warehousing, mining. I’m a musician so questions on music, roots of genres like jazz, blues, classic rock. 10% weightage of GK out of 35% PI weightage and absolutely no GK questions asked. Can i please get to know why? Only a 7-8 minute interview. A general observation by not only me but many others that work ex people had 20-25 minute interviews and freshers had 8-10 minute ones. Again, why? ——————SJMSOM IIT Bombay GDPI Experience————– CAT: 96.67 NC-OBC X:91.85% XII:85.40% Grad: 8.05 CGPA in Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University Work ex: 4 months as on 31st Dec,2013 in Cognizant Technology Solutions Process: At first there was this introduction about SJMSOM by the first year students of SJMSOM. This was followed by WAT(200-250 words max) and Summarising of a given passage(max 3 sentences and 50 words) each carrying 5 marks and total time given for both being 30 minutes. WAT topic: What are the “development” related consequences of steady urbanisation in India? This followed document verification. Take xerox copies of all the documents self attested. Also take a xerox copy of your identity proof. PI: 2 profs, 1 was SJMSOM prof. who teaches Management of Technology and another was some prof. from another department. They made me very comfortable. Asked me to introduce myself and than my strengths and it’s real life example, why SJMSOM?, some questions related to industrial training I did like how much grid connected power is there in India, capacity of a generator, efficiency of power plant, what is the problem which power sector in India, what steps can be taken to improve. And than some questions related to final year project I did. That’s it! It was very chilled interview. Suggestions: Know everything that is related to your project, industrial training and any other certificates you will be giving in the file. They were just looking one certificate after the other and asking questions. Nothing that was not related to the file. You may ask questions if you have, I will try to answer. Thanks. Not sure I got the words correct. Interview: 2 Professors. Prof 2: So, you come from the Shipping industry. But let’s start with you. Tell us about yourself I’ve talked about my schooling, college, job (2.5 years of work ex) and why I want to do an MBA now. Prof 1: Hmm. So, what do you want to do after you finish your MBA? I’ve told him honestly that I am not set in stone and open for options, but probably more into operations since I’ve been working in that field. Prof 2: Okay. You’ve come from Andhra Pradesh. Tell me about the demographics of Telangana and Seemandhra. Explained the population density of parts of Seemandhra, Hyderabad, Telangana in general. Talked about the area size comparing with the state of Tamil nadu. Prof 1: What are the no. of Lok Sabha seats in undivided AP?Told. Prof 1: So how many seats are they gonna be in telangana and Seemandhra?Explained how the no. of constituencies stress more on population than area, and derived a rough figure. (They seem to be satisfied) Prof 2: Tell me about your job profile.Told. (Prof 1 left.) Prof 2: Tell be about your company and why it is in shipping.SJMSOM IIT Bombay Explained the group’s founding years, it’s assets value. Also told why it is in the shipping business. (Prof 1 came back ) Prof 1: Tell me about Shipping industry. How is Pipavav yard doing? Told. Explained the Chinese strength and how Indian yards in general is doing. Threw some numbers. Prof 2: Let’s say you are the finance minister of this country, and you want to increase the GDP. What would you do? Take your time, jot down points and explain how they would impact on the GDP..· Talked about opening up the economy – FDI/FII investments – increase in the GDP· Discussed the misplaced subsidies. Stressed that subsidies are good, but they shouldn’t be bleeding. Will ask the respective ministries to come up with decent methods to prevent the pilferage – Less fiscal deficit – sign of good economy.· Empower the institutions. Like the courts, ECI, CBI, RBI to be more independent and implement the rule of the land. Prof 1 pitched in and said, ‘what about CAG, Lokpal’. Told them they should also be part of it. This will increase the faith for the investors that the country is safe and reliable. Prof 2: I want to see immediate growth. What would you say to the RBI being a Fin Min? Told about how Rajan refused to decrease the interestt rates despite the Chidambaram’s insistence. One of the prof is the HoD Special mention to the excellent hospitality of first year SJMSOM students. For the first time I felt the school wants me there, helping me out to clear the final hurdles so that I can reach home. Mentioned about being a Quizzer. So was grilled on that front. 2. CEO of Biocon. Told. 3. CEO of Infy. Chairman of Infy. Chairman(non exec). Told. 4. Largest IT company(in terms of Market Cap). Told. Largest Company(market cap)Overall. Told that it was the same. 5. Asked me about Telangana. Asked what were the major reason for the turmoil. Status of Hyderabad or any other issue. Told 6. Asked me about the % of Seemandhra settlers in Hyderabad. He told it was 60-70%. I argued that it would hardly exceed 20% and backed up with the demographics stat of Hyderabad. 7. Asked about politics. Lok Sabha. Rajya Sabha. How are Rajya Sabha MPs elected? Told. 8. Asked about previous Rajasthan CM who contested for President. Told. 9. What specialisation would you choose? Told Systems and gave him the reason. Cloud, Analytics, Big Data blah blah. 10. What is Big Data. Cloud Computing. Dropbox is a cloud service?Told. 11. Why is it called Cloud Computing, why not Server Computing. Was blank for a second. And told that I didn’t know. He asked me to think. Me:[Since my first interview I have been preparing to asnwer this question, but was never asked. This time I kind of did not expect it] Told. P1: Tell me one area which interests you. Me: Indian Economy P2: Tell me the value of GDP. Me: Told the % P2: The absolute value. Me: I am not sure sir. It should be in few thousand crores. But I think absolute values hardly matter. P2: Why do you say so? Me: Told. P2 agreed but then also said, it does. Me: Okay sir. P2: Tell me the break up of GDP. Me: Told. And luckily it ended up in 100% P2: It is more than 100. Me: No sir, it is not.[I already was grinning on the inside at the serendipity] P2 totalled again. P1 checked and it was 100. P2: Okay so if you were to bring some change in the contribution what would you do? Me: Told. P2: Why? Me: Told P2: taht would mean service sector would have negative growth. Me: No sir. Explained.
