Times of India Nagpur: The State Common Entrance Test (CET) cell on Tuesday served show-cause notices to 134 candidates who have submitted AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) as well as Management Aptitude Test (MAT) for admission to two-year MBA programmes in the state.
On July 23, TOI had reported how CET cell’s all India final merit list for the first-year technical courses in management admissions 2019-20 came under scanner after wrong percentile against the names of 20 aspirants among the first 57 toppers came to fore. Following the story, several students called up this reporter to narrate their woes.
CET cell officials said the decision was taken after Mumbai police referred several parents, students and college officials to them.
The admission process has come to a halt amid demands for police complaints and a court case over admissions at Mumbai’s prestigious JL Bajaj College, the officials said. A decision is likely to come on Wednesday from the Bombay high court where some students have filed the case.
CET cell commissioner Anand Rayate said some colleges whom these students were allotted themselves approached the cops only to be referred to us. “We have already given instructions to all concerned director offices and requested Admission Regulatory Authority (ARA) chairman to take further action,” he said.
A joint director said the 134 candidates have been asked to prove authenticity of their ATMA and MAT percentiles within two days or face action. He also said that complaints have been pouring in since last week. “We have also called ATMA and MAT results to verify the scores,” he said.
Regarding Bajaj case, he said we had allocated seats as per autonomy but the college has became affiliated to Mumbai University from this season.
This means the admission process may have to be done again with publication of a fresh merit list.
As per the final all India CET merit list, nine candidates have been placed between 8th all India ranking (AIR) and 28th with an ATMA percentile of 99.99. Such scores were never awarded in any of the last four ATMAs to the toppers.
The ghost merit list has also taken a toll on bright students. A girl missed the admission despite AIR of 32nd at Bajaj College. Despite securing 99.96%, she was not able to make the cut at the top institute on merit basis.
TOI has also reported that as per CET plan, the CAP-II started on Monday. However, the schedule is now messed up because of the ongoing issues.
