MBA CET 2026: Data Interpretation Mastery
Caselet Instructions
Natasha wants to pursue her B. Tech from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, United States, but to be able to afford it, she has to take an education loan. The loan agreement guaranteed to pay 80% of all her expenses. This way she only had to bear the remaining costs.
As soon as she landed in the United States, she had to pay the rent for her new apartment. The apartment rent was $550 per month. She then paid her tuition fee for the current semester worth $25000. On an average she spent $340 on utilities and groceries per month. Given that, Natasha’s course lasted a total of two years (comprising of 2 semesters per year) and the bank gave 80% of the total expenses of two years at the beginning of her course.
1. How much did the bank have to pay in total for two years on behalf of Natasha?
Total expenditure on rent = 24 months × $550 = $13,200
Total expenditure on utilities = 24 months × $340 = $8,160
Total expenditure on tuition fees = 4 semesters × $25,000 = $100,000
Total expense = $(13,200 + 8,160 + 100,000) = $121,360
Bank’s Share (80%) = 0.80 × 121,360 = $97,088.
2. If the bank charges simple interest at 9% p.a., find the total interest amount Natasha paid after 2 years (assuming total loan repayment after 2 years).
Principal (Loan) = $97,088
Simple Interest = (P × R × T) / 100
SI = (97,088 × 9 × 2) / 100 = $17,475.84.
3. Find the annual amount spent on utilities is what percentage less than the annual amount spent on rent? (Approximate)
Annual Rent = 12 × 550 = $6,600
Annual Utilities = 12 × 340 = $4,080
% Less = [(6600 – 4080) / 6600] × 100
= [2520 / 6600] × 100 ≈ 38.18% ≈ 38%.
4. Natasha gets a 3-month internship paying $12,000/month. Utilities and rent for these 3 months is what percentage of total internship earnings?
Earnings = 3 × 12,000 = $36,000
Total Expense (3 months) = 3 × (550 + 340) = 3 × 890 = $2,670
% = (2670 / 36000) × 100 = 7.41%.
5. If Natasha lives with relatives for 6 months, how much does she save on rent and utilities?
Savings per month = Rent ($550) + Utilities ($340) = $890
Savings (6 months) = 6 × 890 = $5,340.
MBA CET: GhoshBabu Property Caselet
Caselet Information
GhoshBabu distributed property (Cash, Gold coins at 4000, Silver bars at 1000) equally among 4 daughters.
| Daughter | Assets Given | Calculation (X = Total Property) |
|---|---|---|
| Eldest | 20% Property + 25,000 Cash | 0.2X + 25000 |
| Second | 20% of Remaining + 50,000 Cash | 0.16X + 50000 |
| Third | 20% of Remaining + 75,000 Cash | 0.128X + 75000 |
| Fourth | 20% of Remaining + 75,000 Cash | 0.128X + 75000 |
Q1. The amount of property in gold and silver possessed by GhoshBabu is:
Total Property X ≈ 5,85,937.5
Total Cash distributed = 25k + 50k + 75k + 75k = 2,25,000
Gold + Silver = Total Property – Total Cash
≈ 5,85,937.5 – 2,25,000 ≈ 3,60,937.5
Closest Option: (d) 3,60,000.
Q2. Total property of GhoshBabu (in Rs. lakh) is approx:
Sum of portions = X
(0.2X + 25000) + (0.16X + 50000) + (0.128X + 75000) + (0.128X + 75000) = X
0.616X + 2,25,000 = X
0.384X = 2,25,000
X = 5,85,937.5 ≈ 6 Lakh.
Q3. If GhoshBabu had equal number of gold and silver bars, the number of silver bars he has is:
Let the number of gold coins and silver bars be ‘n’.
Total Value = (4000 * n) + (1000 * n) = 3,60,000
5000 * n = 3,60,000
n = 3,60,000 / 5000 = 72.
