An Exam has three rounds of two questions each. in the first round each correct answers carries 20 points whereas each incorrect answer carries a penalty of 10 points. if both the questions are answered correctly a bonus of 10 points is awarded. in the second round each correct and incorrect answer carries the same number of points as in the first round. however an additional penalty of 10 points is awarded if both the questions were answered incorrectly. in the final round each correct answer carries 40 points and an incorrect one carries a penalty of 20 points.

Assume that the contestant answered one question correctly in each round what will be his total score?

a) 40 b) 50 c) 60 d) 80

Let’s first calculate the points for each round and then add them up to get the total score.

Round 1:

Each correct answer = 20 points

Each incorrect answer = -10 points

Bonus for two correct answers = 10 points

So, if both questions are answered correctly, the score for round 1 would be:

20 + 20 + 10 = 50

If both questions are answered incorrectly, the score for round 1 would be:

-10 – 10 = -20

If only one question is answered correctly, the score for round 1 would be:

20 – 10 = 10

Round 2:

Each correct answer = 20 points

Each incorrect answer = -10 points

Additional penalty for two incorrect answers = -10 points

So, if both questions are answered correctly, the score for round 2 would be:

20 + 20 = 40

If both questions are answered incorrectly, the score for round 2 would be:

-10 – 10 – 10 = -30

If only one question is answered correctly, the score for round 2 would be:

20 – 10 = 10

Round 3:

Each correct answer = 40 points

Each incorrect answer = -20 points

So, if both questions are answered correctly, the score for round 3 would be:

40 + 40 = 80

If both questions are answered incorrectly, the score for round 3 would be:

-20 – 20 = -40

If only one question is answered correctly, the score for round 3 would be:

40 – 20 = 20

Now, we can add up the scores for all three rounds to get the total score:

Total score = Round 1 score + Round 2 score + Round 3 score

Let’s assume that the contestant answered one question correctly in each round. Then, the total score would be:

Total score = (20 – 10) + (20 – 10) + (40 – 20)

Total score = 80

Therefore, if the contestant answered one question correctly in each round, their total score would be 80 points.
