MBA Placement Process

The placement process at most of the MBA colleges including IIMs / non IIMs comprises 3 major events – namely Summer, Lateral and Final Placements.

ActivitiesTimelineParticipants
Summer PlacementsOctober/NovemberFirst-year students
Lateral PlacementsJanuary/FebruaryStudents having prior work experience
Final PlacementsFebruary/MarchAll graduating students

MBA Summer Placements: The summer placements are organised for the firms to recruit MBA students for internships usually in the month of April-May. This also helps build a platform to receive pre-placement offers (PPOs). The summer placements happen over four to five days where complete batch is placed within days. This process is guided by an elaborate set of rules for both students and recruiters.

Lateral Placements: The lateral placements at IIMs take place a couple of months before the final placements, in which two-year MBA/PGP students with work experience (18 months and more) can participate.

Final Placements: The final placement process which takes place in February-March is almost similar across all the IIMs except for a few minor deviations here and there. For example, IIM Ahmedabad follows the cohort-based system, instead of the day-based system. The cohort based system allows recruiters to assess students in groups based on domain or expertise over a longer period of time.
