Last-Minute Changes Raise Questions Among MBA Aspirants
The Maharas htra CET Cell has come under scrutiny after significant changes were made to the MBA/MMS CET 2026 seat matrix just one day before the release of the final merit list. Thousands of candidates who had already analyzed colleges and prepared their CAP strategy are now questioning whether such major modifications should be introduced at the last moment.
The revised CET seat matrix shows several structural changes. The most notable is the complete removal of the Defence (DEF) quota as a separate category. Earlier, the seat matrix allocated Defence seats separately, including reserved Defence Common seats. In the updated version, these seats have disappeared, and the total OPEN category seats have increased from 36 to 39.
Another major change is the removal of gender-wise bifurcation. Previously, seats were divided into General and Ladies quotas across categories. The latest seat matrix now displays only a consolidated seat count, changing the presentation of admissions across all categories.
The total number of State Level seats has also increased from 97 to 100. These additional seats appear to have been absorbed into the OPEN category after the Defence quota was removed. Additionally, the Orphan quota, which earlier included one Non-Institutional seat, has also been removed from the updated matrix.
While the overall intake of 120 seats remains unchanged, along with Maharashtra State seats, All India seats, reservation categories, EWS, TFWS, and PWD allocations, the timing of these changes has become the center of the controversy. Students argue that seat matrices play a crucial role in college preference planning and option form strategy. Altering them just before the final merit list can affect informed decision-making and create confusion during the CAP admission process.
The CET Seat Matrix controversy has sparked widespread debate among MBA CET aspirants, with many demanding greater transparency, advance notification, and a stable admission process to ensure fairness for every candidate participating in Maharashtra MBA CAP counselling.
