Many CAT aspirants have nightmares when they attempt VARC section. And it drives down their percentile to very low score. Even it can be very good section to score high percentile but still It is one of biggest problem which aspirants face. It is not static that aspirants face same kind of difficulty every year. The difficulty level changes every year and even with every slot. So, we must pay attention to this section and try innovative ways to solve it.
Let’s try to understand and solve this section in better and efficient way: –
- READING SPEED MATTERS: –
We should increase our speed. Speed matters. One of the best ways is to start with reading Articles or editorial blog. Reading a 300-400 worded newspaper article may be a good beginning. Use stopwatch and try to take just 5—6 minutes. You may not be able to understand in the beginning but don’t worry. Soon you will be able to understand. So, practice.

2. LISTEN THE WORDS: –
Read as you are listening. Every passage has a story so read it as you are listening that story. When we ready fast or read as listening our concentration improves. And concentration plays one of most important roles in VARC
3. WRITE DOWN KEY-POINTS: –
Do one thing for 1—2 weeks in the beginning, write down key-points of the passage which you have read. sooner you will be able to get major idea of paragraph and this way your retention ability will improve and you do not need you read again and again.
4. MAKE YOUR OWN STRATEGY: –
Many coaches advice their opinion about attempting VARC, but my opinion is that you should make your own strategy. You can attempt VA first or RC later. Just practice few days and you will find what is best for you.
5. PRACTICE MAKES A PERSON PERFECT: –
There may be many advice but the best way is always PRACTICE. Make practices as many times as easily possible. And for practice, MOCK TESTS are the best. So, when you have completed some topics or sections, go for MOCK TEST. No need to wait for completion of entire syllabus, you can practice earlier too and it is better.
