Master Traditional Logic for MBA CET: The Mahayagya Strategy
Cracking the Logical Reasoning section is the “make or break” factor for the MBA CET. While Puzzles often take the spotlight, Traditional Logic—comprising Directions, Syllogisms, Coding-Decoding, and Blood Relations—is where you build your speed and base score. This “Mahayagya” of questions represents the high-accuracy zone you must conquer to clear the cut-offs for JBIMS or Sydenham.
Core Areas of Focus
To score 100% in Traditional Logic, you must master these four pillars:
- Direction Sense: Always start with a quick reference cross (N, S, E, W). Remember that “Left” and “Right” are relative to the direction you are facing. For example, if you are walking North, a right turn leads East; if you are walking South, a right turn leads West.
- Coding-Decoding: Look for patterns like letter shifts (+1, -2), reverse ordering, or “Artificial Language” where you must isolate common prefixes or suffixes to identify meanings.
- Blood Relations: Use family trees. Always represent males with a plus (+) or square and females with a minus (-) or circle to avoid confusion during complex “pointing to a person” questions.
- Syllogisms: The “Only” and “Only a few” cases are CET favorites. Use Venn Diagrams to visualize possibilities and remember that “Possibility” conclusions are true if there is even one valid way to draw the diagram.
- Series: For prime-based series like 165, 195, 255… the logic is 15 multiplied by consecutive prime numbers. The next term is 15 * 29 = 435.
Practice Drill: MBA CET Mahayagya
Test your speed with these representative types:
- Coding: If INSTITUTE is EOTUJUVUI, then MEDICOVER becomes RFEJDPWFM (Pattern: Reverse +1 shift).
- Blood Relations: If P + Q is brother and P x Q is father, then “K + Y x I – Z” proves I is the niece of K.
- Series: For prime-based series like 165, 195, 255… the logic is 15 multiplied by consecutive prime numbers. The next term is 15 * 29 = 435.
Pro-Tip for CET
In Traditional Logic, avoid overthinking. If a direction question results in zero vertical displacement (N20 and S20), they cancel out, leaving only the horizontal distance. Use these shortcuts to save time for the heavier puzzles!
