  2. 5:6
  3. 11:6
  4. 16:15
  5. 15:16
Show answerHide answer

Answer: D

Approach: E = I ÷ (1 + P/100); incomes equal.

Solution: From the graph, 2009: X = 50%, Y = 60%.
EX = I/1.5, EY = I/1.6.
EX : EY = 1/1.5 : 1/1.6 = 1.6 : 1.5 = 16 : 15.

Why the other options are wrong: 15:16 (E) results from reading X as 60% and Y as 50%; 6:5 / 5:6 ignore the '1 +' in the income formula.

Cetking shortcut: X has the lower profit %, so X must spend more → ratio > 1 → only 6:5, 11:6, 16:15 survive; 160:150 = 16:15.

Answer: D

Answer: A

Approach: Divide each income by (1 + profit%).

Solution: From the graph, 2010: X = 65%, Y = 50%.
EX : EY = 3/1.65 : 4/1.5 = (3 × 1.5) : (4 × 1.65) = 4.5 : 6.6 = 45 : 66 = 15 : 22.
