Official CET key: C · Cetking's answer: A — see why below

Approach: Embedded figure — trace the exact outline, including the zig-zag top edge.

Solution:
The given figure is a square whose top edge carries two V-shaped notches: from each top-left corner a line slopes down-right, then rises steeply to the top edge.
Option C is made of two side-by-side cells; in each cell a line runs from the top-left down-right and meets a steep diagonal that rises to the top-right corner.
These two cells together give exactly the two notches under one straight top edge, inside a square boundary.
So the figure is embedded in C.

Why the other options are wrong:
A: has slanted lines and triangles, but no two identical notches hanging from one top edge.
B, D, E: their zig-zag lines are irregular or open; the closed square with two equal notches cannot be traced.

Cetking shortcut: Look for two repeated identical notches — only C has a repeated (two-cell) structure.

Answer: C

Answer: A

Approach: Embedded figure — find figure X, same size and orientation, inside an option.

Solution: Figure X: a horizontal top line, a slanted line from its right end down to the lower left, and a short line from its left end meeting the slanted line.
In figure 1 these three lines appear in the same orientation and proportion within the overlapping shapes.
In figures 2, 3 and 4 the angle or orientation of the lines does not match.

Cetking shortcut: Look for the most distinctive part (the long slanted line from the end of a horizontal line) first.

Answer: A

In the following question, you are given a fig. (X) followed by four alternative figures (a), (b), (c), and (d) such that fig. (X) is embedded in one of them. Trace out the alternative figure which contains fig. (X) as its part. If Fig. (X) is not embedded in the given alternatives (a), (b), (c), and (d) then choose option (e) None of these.

Answer: C

Approach: Embedded figure: trace the exact shape (same size and orientation) inside each option.

Solution:
Fig. (X): a flat-bottomed U with short arms bent outward at the top, and two short ticks hanging below the base.
Figure (c): the top line drops into a U-shaped box whose base has two short ticks below it, which is exactly fig. (X). ✔

Why the other options are wrong:
(a), (b): these have stepped outlines, and no base has two ticks hanging down.
(d): the person-like figure's body is a box, not a U with ticks.
(e) None of these: (c) contains fig. (X).

Cetking shortcut: Find the most unusual feature first (here, the two ticks under the base), then check the rest of the shape there.

Answer: C

Answer: D

Approach: Embedded figure: trace the exact shape (same size and orientation) inside each option.

Solution:
Fig. (X): a simple X, two straight lines crossing at their middle.
Figure (d): at the centre of the clover, the two side lobe edges and the two sides of the triangle meet in straight lines through one point, forming the X. ✔

Why the other options are wrong:
(a): the lines meet at the diagonal but not as an X of the same proportions.
(b): the X is drawn with double (outlined) bars, not single lines.
(c): an outlined, interlocking X made of bands, not single lines.
(e) None of these: (d) contains fig. (X).

Cetking shortcut: Rule out the options where the X is drawn with double lines (b, c). Fig. (X) has single lines.

Answer: E

Approach: Trace figure (X) — short top line, diagonal down-right to a long middle line, diagonal down-left to a short bottom line — in each option without rotating it.

Solution:
(X) needs: a horizontal top line whose left end joins a diagonal running down-right; that diagonal meets a longer horizontal line which extends past it on the left; from the right end of that line a diagonal runs down-left to a bottom horizontal line running right.
(a) has the top line, the down-right diagonal and a middle line, but no bottom horizontal line, and the proportions do not match.
(b), (c) and (d) do not contain this zig-zag at all.
So (X) is not embedded in any option.

Answer: E

Answer: D

Approach: Try to trace each option inside the main figure without changing size or orientation.

Solution:
Main figure: square with both medians, two large tilted squares, a small central diamond and small corner triangles.
Options A, B, C and E can each be traced along existing lines (diagonal strips, the stepped zig-zag and the corner square with inner diamond).
Option D – the 'house' shape (diamond top with two vertical legs ending in short diagonal hooks) – needs two vertical lines one diamond-width apart under a diamond, which the figure does not have → not embedded.

Why the other options are wrong:
A, B, C, E: each fits on existing lines of the figure.

Cetking shortcut: Look for a feature the main figure lacks (here: vertical lines in positions other than the edges and centre).

Answer: D

Approach: Trace the arrow-head shape (a long stroke up to an apex, back down to an inner point, then out to a short tip) inside each option.

Solution:
The shape needs: a long line from bottom-left rising to an apex, a line from the apex down-right, and a reflex inner vertex.
In option D, the line from the bottom-left corner up to the top apex, the line from that apex down-right, and the crossing line give exactly this outline → embedded.
In A, B, C and E no set of lines gives the same angles and orientation.

Why the other options are wrong:
A: symmetric diagonals – angles do not match.
B: lines are near-vertical – too steep.
C: no common apex for the two long strokes.
E: the circle and long lines do not form the inner vertex.

Cetking shortcut: Start from the longest line of the shape and look for it in each option at the same slope.

Answer: D
